Welcome to the Worthing
& District Bowls
Association
The Association was
formed in 1961 with the
intention of bringing
together like minded
bowlers and was
initially called the
'Association of Worthing
Bowling Clubs' as
membership was confined
to Clubs whose home
green was within the
Borough of Worthing.
In 1969 membership was
opened up to clubs
outside the Worthing
Borough boundaries and
the Association was
renamed the Worthing and
District Bowling
Association - as it is
known today.
There are now 20
affiliated Clubs, as
over the years
affiliation has been
extended well beyond
Worthing and now
includes most of the
clubs in West Sussex and
all members of those
clubs are eligible to
play for and represent
the Worthing and
District BA.
In addition those
players are eligible to
enter competitions
organised by the W&DBA.
The home green is at
Beach House Park and in
years gone by, Clubs from
afar would come to play
Worthing and District BA
in order to play on what
then was a 'hallowed
green'.
Records show that during
a typical year clubs
from Portsmouth, Sutton
(Surrey), Finchley,
London Parks, West
Surrey and Croydon would
play against the
Association.
We still manage to
maintain a reasonably
healthy fixture list
with a leaning now
towards mixed matches
with the odd couple of
traditional men's
matches.
Members who play in 6
matches for the
Association are awarded
the Worthing and
District blazer badge.
Further stars are
awarded to members who
play 25, 50,75 and 100
matches.
